Dr. Tom Messinger, ND

Naturopathic Doctor / Owner

Dr. Tom Messinger is a licensed Naturopathic Doctor. Prior to becoming an ND, he was a Registered Nurse for 23 years, spending most of his career working in inner city Emergency Departments/Trauma Centers. He was founder and Clinic Director of Portland Natural Medicine in SE Portland. He moved to Southern Oregon in 2019.

His practice at SOIM is focused on finding the root cause of various health conditions. He often sees patients who have been searching for answers in the medical system but were not able to obtain answers to why they developed their illness. Through detective work, he has found that most, if not all chronic conditions, have as a contributing factor undiagnosed chronic infections and/or a body burden of various toxins. Through various testing methods, these contributors can be found. He specializes in treating patients who have been told they have CFS/Myalgic Encephalitis, Fibromyalgia, Persistent gastro-intestinal symptoms, Lyme disease and other tick borne infections, Mold Illness, or PANS/PANDAS.

But his practice is not limited to seeing patients who have these issues. He sees patients of all ages with various complaints and diagnoses. Regardless of what the “diagnosis” is or “ lack of diagnosis”, his job is to figure out what is the cause of symptoms and treat the underlying cause.

His education in Lyme disease began by participating in foundational training with ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society). He continued his education in Lyme disease by taking multiple trainings with Dr. Klinghardt, MD, PHD (a well-known Lyme disease specialist) and the Klinghardt Academy. He subsequently discovered the work of Dr. Neil Nathan, MD. Dr. Nathan’s work has profoundly influenced the way Dr. Messinger practices. Dr. Nathan has paved the way in teaching physicians how to work with very sensitive patients.

He continues to take trainings and does research to keep updated on new developments in the field of chronic illness. He is an active member in the following:

    ILADS

ISEAI (The International Society of Environmentally Acquired Illness)

EMEI Global- The most comprehensive training program in North  America for diagnosing and

                        treating toxicant-induced illness.

    Neil Nathan Mentorship Program

Many of the patients Dr. Messinger sees have been to numerous doctors but continue to have persistent health issues.  He has found that most chronically ill patients have multiple, if not numerous factors, contributing to their health issues.  He utilizes a number of tools to assess what may be the root causes of patient’s health issues. After finding the imbalances and prioritizing the order of treatment, he uses an individualized combination of treatments to assist in the restoration of health
