Toxins, Toxicants, and the LiveO₂–Juvent–Sauna Protocol

Setting the Stage
The Problem: Toxins and Toxicants
Toxins are substances produced by living organisms, while toxicants are man- made chemicals that have adverse biological effects. For the purposes of this article, we will use the more commonly used term “toxins” to refer to both.
While it is important to live as cleanly as possible, the reality is that over the course of our lives all of us accumulate toxins. These compounds can become stored throughout the body—in organs, glands, bone, fat tissue, and even the
brain.
Over time, this toxic burden can interfere with normal cellular function and impair the mitochondria, which are the energy-producing structures inside every cell.
Evidence of Our Body Burden
Research has repeatedly demonstrated the widespread presence of environmental chemicals in humans.
Examples include:
• A CDC study detected 212 environmental chemicals (including compounds from plastics, pesticides, and flame retardants) in the majority of more than 2,000 people tested.
• Another analysis evaluated 3,820 environmental toxicants and their metabolites and found that 3,221 of these chemicals were present in the majority of human plasma samples tested.
According to the CDC, the following chemicals are found in over 95% of Americans:
• PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) – persistent industrial pollutants banned
decades ago but still widely present in the environment
• BPA and related bisphenols – chemicals used in plastics
• Phthalates – plasticizers used to soften plastics
• PBDEs – flame retardants used in furniture and electronics
• PFOA – used in non-stick coatings such as Teflon
• DDE – a breakdown product of DDT that persists in human fat tissue
decades after its ban
• Organochlorine pesticides, often referred to as “legacy chemicals”
Modern life exposes us to thousands of synthetic chemicals every day. While many are present in small amounts individually, the cumulative burden can significantly affect health.
Why This Matters
Regardless of the diagnosis someone receives—whether Lyme disease, mold
illness, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, fibromyalgia,
depression, or other chronic conditions—toxic burden can play a significant role in
driving inflammation and impairing healing.
Chronic illness almost always involves persistent inflammation and immune
dysregulation.
Chemicals, heavy metals, plastics, mycotoxins, and other environmental
exposures can all be immunotoxic, meaning they interfere with normal
immune function.
When toxic load is reduced:
• immune regulation improves
• inflammation decreases
• cellular function improves
This concept is often referred to as improving the terrain of the body.
For example, in Lyme disease many experts recognize that illness is not caused simply by the presence of Borrelia. Rather, it is the overall terrain of the body—including toxic burden and immune dysregulation—that determines whether infection becomes chronic. This helps explain why many people experience tick bites yet never develop Lyme disease; their immune systems are able to keep the organism in check.
The Solution: The Rejuvenace™ Triad
Mobilizing and removing toxins from the body is not simple. The process involves two major steps:
Step 1: Mobilize toxins from the cells
Step 2: Safely remove those toxins from the body
At Southern Oregon Integrative Medicine, we use a therapeutic sequence called the Rejuvenace™ Triad to accomplish these goals.
The triad consists of three therapies performed sequentially:
1. LiveO₂ Altitude Contrast Oxygen Therapy
2. Juvent Micro-Impact Platform
3. Infrared Sauna Detoxification
These therapies work together to oxygenate tissues, mobilize toxins, stimulate lymphatic drainage, and support elimination.
Step 1: Getting Toxins Out of Cells
The greatest challenge in detoxification is getting toxins to leave the cells in the first place.
For this to occur, mitochondria—the energy-producing engines within cells—require adequate oxygen delivery.
However, toxins themselves can create a major obstacle.
Toxic exposures can cause inflammation and swelling in the endothelial lining of capillaries, the smallest blood vessels in the body. When this occurs, red blood cells (which normally carry oxygen) may have difficulty passing through these narrowed capillaries.
This can limit oxygen delivery to tissues and prevent cells from effectively mobilizing toxins—a classic “catch-22” situation.
The Solution: Super-Saturating Plasma With Oxygen
This is where LiveO₂ Altitude Contrast Oxygen Therapy becomes powerful.
During a LiveO₂ session, patients exercise gently on a treadmill, stationary bike, or hand crank while breathing through a specialized mask.
The system alternates between:
• high-oxygen air (approximately 80% oxygen)
• simulated altitude air with lower oxygen levels
Exercise increases heart rate and circulation, increasing what we call driving pressure in the vascular system.
When the simulated altitude phase begins, the body responds to the temporary reduction in oxygen by:
• increasing heart rate
• increasing nitric oxide production
• dilating blood vessels
This creates turbulent blood flow.
Why Turbulent Flow Matters
Imagine a mountain stream compared to a stagnant pond.
Water flowing rapidly over rocks becomes highly oxygenated because it is constantly exposed to air.
A similar phenomenon occurs in the bloodstream. Turbulent flow increases the exposure of red blood cells and plasma to oxygen in the lungs.
The result is dramatically increased oxygen levels in the plasma (the liquid portion of the blood).
Even when swollen capillaries restrict red blood cell passage, oxygen-rich plasma can still reach tissues, delivering oxygen to the mitochondria and enabling cells to begin releasing stored toxins.
Step 2: Removing Toxins From the Body
Once toxins are released from the cells, they enter the extracellular space.
Many of these molecules are too large to be immediately picked up by the venous capillaries. If they remain there, they can simply recirculate or cause local irritation.
Therefore, the next step is to stimulate lymphatic circulation to carry these toxins
away.
Juvent Micro-Impact Platform
This is accomplished using the Juvent Micro-Impact Platform, a device selected by NASA for use with astronauts.
Standing on the platform for approximately 20 minutes produces extremely gentle mechanical stimulation that helps activate the lymphatic system, encouraging the movement of toxins into the bloodstream for removal.
Patients who cannot stand can sit in a chair with their feet on the platform and still receive the benefit.
Infrared Sauna
After completing the Juvent session, patients enter an infrared sauna to further support detoxification.
Sweating helps eliminate certain toxins through the skin, while increased circulation supports the body’s natural detoxification pathways.
Patients are typically provided with liver support supplements to assist the liver and gallbladder in processing toxins.
Binders are also used to capture toxins in the gastrointestinal tract so they can be eliminated rather than reabsorbed.
Why the Sequence Matters
Each component of the Rejuvenace™ Triad plays an important role, but the true power of the protocol lies in the sequence. LiveO₂ Altitude Contrast Oxygen Therapy helps oxygenate tissues and mobilize toxins from the cells.
The Juvent Micro-Impact Platform then stimulates lymphatic circulation so those toxins can be transported away from
tissues. Finally, the infrared sauna supports elimination through sweating and improved circulation. When
performed in this sequence, these therapies work together to support the body’s natural detoxification pathways in a coordinated and efficient way.
In Summary
Oxygen is one of the most critical nutrients required for cellular energyproduction and healing.
By combining LiveO₂ Altitude Contrast Oxygen Therapy, the Juvent Micro-Impact Platform, and infrared sauna detoxification, the Rejuvenace™ Triad helps:
• oxygenate tissues
• mobilize toxins from cells
• stimulate lymphatic drainage
• support safe toxin elimination
For many patients struggling with chronic illness, this protocol can help shift the internal terrain of the body and support the restoration of health.
This protocol forms the foundation of the Rejuvenace™ Cellular Detoxification
Program offered at Southern Oregon Integrative Medicine.
